Why support The Making Place?
The Making Place is a developing community-focused creative provision for young people in Bath. We use music production, recording, podcasting and creative media to help young people build confidence, skills and self-expression in a safe, supportive studio environment.
We are currently piloting the project, with the aim of developing into a Community Interest Company as the provision grows.
Pilot Findings
Bath is often seen as an affluent city, but that picture does not tell the whole story. Behind the postcard image are young people and families who can still face financial pressure, isolation, anxiety, SEND needs, reduced confidence, or limited access to creative opportunities.
The Making Place exists to make high-quality creative music, podcasting and audio sessions available to young people who may not otherwise get the chance to work in a real studio-style environment.
Our pilot showed us how important this work can be. We learned that small groups are essential, that young people need enough time to settle and build trust, and that creative work is most powerful when it leads to something they can genuinely feel proud of.
The pilot also helped us shape the next stage of The Making Place. Sessions will stay small, practical and youth-work-led, with a focus on confidence, creativity, communication and real finished outcomes.

Bursary places
Helping young people attend who may otherwise be unable to access sessions.

Microphones, headphones, instruments, recording equipment and creative media tools.

Structured creative courses for young people who benefit from smaller, supportive settings.
Mentoring and progression
One-to-one or small-group creative mentoring to support confidence, skills and next steps.
Studio and project costs
Room hire, materials, project delivery and opportunities for young people to create and share work.

A Safe and Supportive Environment
Sessions are delivered by an experienced youth worker and music producer, with safeguarding, consent and data protection procedures in place. The Making Place is designed to be creative, welcoming and youth-focused while maintaining clear boundaries and safe working practice.
