About The Making Place

The Making Place has been created by an experienced youth worker and music producer to give young people access to high-quality creative opportunities in a safe, supportive environment, without losing the feel of a real studio environment.

The aim is to remove barriers to music production, recording, podcasting and creative media, especially for young people who may not always thrive in traditional settings. Sessions are practical and project-based, allowing each young person to work at their own pace while building confidence and developing real creative skills.

Our Purpose

The Making Place exists to give young people access to creative opportunities that feel professional, welcoming and supportive.

Through music production, recording, podcasting and creative media, we help young people build confidence, develop new skills and express themselves in a real studio environment.

The Making Place aims to:

Build confidence and self-expression

Young people are supported to explore ideas, make creative choices and develop the confidence to share their work in a way that feels right for them.

Improve access to creative equipment and support

We give young people hands-on experience with real studio equipment, software and creative tools, with guidance from an experienced youth worker and music producer.

Provide small, safe and supportive groups

Sessions are intentionally kept small so young people can develop at their own pace, ask questions, try new roles and feel supported throughout the process.

Reduce financial barriers where possible

Where funding, sponsorship or partnership support is available, we use it to provide reduced-cost or fully funded places for young people who may otherwise be unable to attend.

Our Approach

Group sizes are intentionally kept small (a maximum of 6) to ensure each young person receives individual support and time to develop their ideas properly.

Rather than one-off activities, sessions are designed as part of a wider journey, with opportunities to progress through different levels, work towards Arts Award and receive more focused 1–1 support where needed.

This creates a space where young people can not only learn new skills, but also develop independence, confidence and a sense of ownership over their work.

Background

The Making Place is led by an experienced youth worker with a background in delivering creative projects for young people across a range of settings, including targeted provision and community-based programmes.

This experience shapes how sessions are delivered, combining a high-quality creative environment with an understanding of how to support young people as individuals.

The aim is to create a space that feels both professional and welcoming, where young people can engage with creativity in a way that suits them.
